5 Fun Outdoor Exercise Ideas for Fall | Sunburst Superfoods

Winter is coming, Superfoodies, and before it does it’s important to take advantage of the fall weather. In a few weeks, it’ll be too chilly to head outside for a workout, but the fall can actually be the best time of the year to exercise in the great outdoors! Between the cool, temperate weather and the beautiful foliage, working out in the fall’s fresh air can make the experience much more enjoyable.

We know how hard it can be to find the time to exercise, but turning your workout into something a little more exciting than running or lifting weights can help you look forward to burning calories and staying healthy. Luckily, there are tons of outdoor exercises that are especially enjoyable in the fall. Here are a few of our favorite ways to get our bodies moving and enjoy the season at the same time:

Check out the foliage - Many people around the country actually travel to different states to see the fall foliage, so for those individuals who live in a state with impressive leaves, it’s extremely easy to take advantage of the beauty that nature has provided us with! Taking a hike in the woods is not only great exercise, but it provides us with the opportunity to experience what some people believe is the most important part of fall - the changing leaves! Plus, hiking can be as difficult as you want it to be.

Bike riding -  A great way to see even more foliage when you’re working out! Many states have lists of the best bike trails to use in the fall to optimize your riding and viewing experience. Check out hiking or biking trails in your area to find the difficulty levels of each, choose one, and then go exploring! You may not even notice when you break a sweat.

Do some yard work - While the fall leaves are beautiful, they can be a nuisance for many people who have lots of trees in their yard. We know that this time of the year can come along with tons of yard work, but there’s no reason that it has to suck up all of your time! Yard work like raking provides the opportunity to combine chores and exercising. In fact, raking leaves has been known to burn about 150 calories per half hour! Listen to some music, enjoy the outdoors, and get two responsibilities done at once.

Kayaking - Although water sports may seem like a summertime activity, they’re also great for the fall! For many people, exercising on the water is a calming experience and a great way to be one with nature without being in the woods. However, it’s important to remember to wear layers and take safety measures, as the water can be much colder than you might imagine!

Yoga- Not only is fall a great time to practice yoga amongst nature, but it’s also a great way to celebrate the start of a new season! Practicing with grounding poses helps us transition from the carefree summer months to the busy fall time. Also, setting a specific intention during your practice can help set the tone for the next few months. This can be a crazy time of the year, and there’s no reason that exercise can’t be relaxing, too!
