But what does the term “organic” really mean, and how much does it actually matter? Is it worth paying extra to buy the foods labeled as “organic” or shopping at specialty stores? According to the USDA National Organic Program, organic foods are growth without the use of pesticides or bioengineering, and meat and dairy products are produced by animals who are fed no hormones or antibiotics. Many individuals choose to avoid pesticides and other chemicals utilized on farms as they have been linked in some studies to illnesses like cancer and Parkinson’s disease. Additionally, some people chose to avoid GMOs because they believe that they may lead to allergies, toxins, and new diseases due to the unnatural genetic makeup of crops.
Purchasing organic ensures that you’re getting the most nutrients and least contaminants possible.
