7 Superfoods to Help Shed Extra Pounds

This week we welcome Kelly Newman from Health Listed to the blog! She's putting the spotlight on superfoods to support weight loss, and why they're so effective.

2018 is here, and many of us have taken the resolution of maintaining a healthy weight this year! So let’s utilize the power of superfoods to melt those extra pounds and achieve our weight goals.

1. Nutrient-Rich Greens

Spinach, Kale, Broccoli and super green powders are rich in nutrients and low in calories. They contain chlorophyll which detoxifies the body. You can incorporate most of these into your daily meals like smoothies, soups, and sandwiches.

2. Berries

These superfruits have enormous benefits for cleansing the body and supporting weight loss. Blueberries have chemicals that can encourage lipolysis; raspberries have fiber that makes you full and goji berries lower blood sugar. These can be added to smoothies and juices for detoxification.

3. Whole Grains

Complex carbs such as Quinoa, Barley and Brown Rice are excellent sources of fiber, which boosts the metabolism and provides energy. Quinoa contains protein so it doubles up on the benefits. You can use them for baking, making risottos and as cereals for breakfast.

4. Grapefruit

Grapefruit contains phytochemicals that prevent various diseases and antioxidants that cleanse your body to promote weight loss. Eating half a grapefruit before lunch or breakfast can help shed pounds. Since it has high water content, drinking grapefruit juice can aid in burning fat.

5. Omega 3 Fatty Acids

Foods such as flax seedschia seeds and wild salmon are rich in omega 3 fatty acids and lean protein. These are ideal for weight loss & promoting health. You can use them as additions in your regular recipes or add to your breakfast smoothie.

6. Lentils and Beans

They are delicious and nutrient powerhouses. Kidney beans are packed with fiber and protein; studies also suggest they can regulate your appetite thereby making you want to eat less. They can be added to soups or just boil them. Lentils can be added to purees and can make delicious dinner recipes.

7. Almond Butter

Don't be afraid of the fat content in almond butter: it contains healthy fat, which increases the feeling of satiety and aids in weight management. You can add it to smoothies or apply it on toast to benefit from the nutritional goodness.
