3 Superfoods to Boost Your Adrenals and Beat Exhaustion

Though adrenal glands don’t necessarily come to mind when we think of our body’s most important organs, they have a huge affect on the way we feel and live!

Our adrenals work hard to prep our bodies to deal with stress, which is something most of us experience too often. In the face of this stress, whether emotional, physical or environmental, our adrenal glands tell every other part of our body how to respond. So it’s no wonder why low-functioning adrenals lead to exhaustion. If our bodies aren’t being told how to act, they won’t work how we need them to!

If you suspect you suffer from adrenal fatigue, your doctor can perform blood work to check your levels. While we recommend following all instructions given to you by medical professionals, we also suggest trying to improve your health naturally with superfoods! Whether you have full blown adrenal fatigue or levels that are on the low end of normal, here are three superfoods to try.

1. Flax seeds - Flax seeds are great source of Omega-3 fatty acids, a special type of fat that helps our bodies function properly while also providing tons of additional health benefits. Increasing your intake of Omega-3 will help reduce the inflammation in your body, giving your adrenal glands an easier time with cortisol production. In other words, blending some flax seeds into your smoothie bowl can help restore your adrenal function to its optimal level.

2. Ashwagandha root powder - Studies have shown that ashwagandha root powder restores your body’s normal cortisol and hormone levels, once again helping out your adrenal glands. Like an overworked employee, your adrenal glands become exhausted when they have to work too hard, so the aid from the ashwagandha root takes some pressure off of them so they can function correctly. Plus, this root’s adaptogenic properties encourage the body’s natural ability to resist emotional and physical stress - yet another job your adrenal gland get some help with! Use it in a smoothie or coffee.

3. Maca root powder - Maca is known for beating stress and regulating your hormones, so it’s no surprise that it’s a great superfood to help with adrenal fatigue. Like ashwagandha, maca root is an adaptogen herb, so it balances your adrenal glands in whichever way they need a little push! Try using maca in baked goods or smoothies.
